The Connection Between Good Health and Lifestyle Choices

Health is a condition of physical, mental and emotional well-being where infirmity and illness are absent. In simple terms, health is suffering absence of disease or health threat. Various definitions have also been used over the years for different purposes. For example, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines health as having a capacity to enjoy life comfortably, not experiencing the distress or pain, capable of managing self-care, and able to do things that are needed for health.


Stress, anxiety, depression, and other psychological disorders are some of the many factors that contribute to poor health status. Mental health, on the other hand, has to do with how you think, feel, and behave when your health status is at stake. The ability to manage stress and cope with unpleasant feelings can be the key to having a good health status. While some people are naturally better equipped to handle stress and anxiety than others are, these people may not know how to manage their mental state of mind. Being able to control ones own emotions and reactions to common stressful situations is a major factor in determining one’s mental and physical health.

Occupational safety is one of the most important aspects of occupational health and safety regulation. Stress is a major cause of ill health. Stress can have both negative and positive aspects. Some physical effects include increased blood pressure, ulcers, headaches, weight gain, insomnia, fatigue, depression, anxiety, gastrointestinal disorders, and other physical and mental problems. Mental health includes the ability to learn, think, solve problems, adapt, and interact with others positively. It is related to your mental well-being and the quality of your life.

People suffering from mental illness often do not know they have a problem until it affects their physical health. Many people experience stress and anxiety as normal everyday occurrences. However, when the amount of stress and anxiety is excessive and/or long-lasting, it can lead to physical illness. Mental illnesses include depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and other psychological illnesses. When the quality of life is impacted because of a mental illness, there is usually a negative impact on one’s physical health as well.

Overall health is the sum total of your physical environment, which includes the things you do every day, your emotions, your genetics, your lifestyle choices, and your daily interactions with other people. The illness can start from any of these areas, and poor or imbalanced eating, emotional issues, stress and anxiety are often common triggers for illness. These factors can be changed by making changes in your lifestyle choices, making healthier choices, reducing stress and anxiety, and taking a good nutritional supplement. By making these lifestyle choices, you can improve your overall health and prevent illness.
